Postcard 1960s Chrome Camino Real Hotel Las Estacas Beach Puerto Vallarta Mexico

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico1971ChromeGood

Before Puerto Vallarta became a global resort phenomenon, the sleek modernist tower of the Hotel Camino Real rose dramatically from the wild jungle coastline of Las Estacas beach — and this vibrant chrome-era aerial postcard captures that precise moment of transformation, the white high-rise gleaming against the cobalt Banderas Bay while vintage 1960s automobiles dot the curved parking area below. The Hotel Camino Real Puerto Vallarta opened in 1969 and was among the first luxury properties to stake a claim on the then-remote Pacific coast destination that John Huston and Richard Burton had just put on the map. Distributed by Impresos Permacolor of Guadalajara under the "Vistacolor" brand and lithographed in Mexico, this card is a time capsule of the resort's earliest days, when the beach still felt half-wild and the mountains plunged directly into the sea.
