Antique & Vintage Postcards

An elegant Moorish-influenced kiosco — its arched pavilion crowned by a silvery dome — commands the Jardín Principal of Tlaquepaque in this warmly saturated chrome postcard, church towers peeking above the tree canopy on either side and ornate lampposts lining the promenade in this craft-village suburb of Guadalajara that was already becoming famous with collectors and tourists in the 1960s. The deep greens of mature trees frame the scene against a crisp blue sky, while a rocking chair sits casually beside a small kiosk booth in the foreground — a perfectly human touch in an otherwise formal composition. Tlaquepaque, today one of Mexico's most celebrated artisan and design destinations, is shown here in its quieter mid-century character. Published by Delfino Oliva under the Potocolor label, catalog number DO-713, with a penciled retail price of 25 centavos on the reverse. Unused and unposted.
