Postcard Chrome Callejon del Beso Kiss Alley Guanajuato Mexico c1960s

Guanajuato, Mexico1965ChromeGood

Two figures pause in conversation at the narrowest, most romantic spot in Guanajuato — the Callejón del Beso, or Kiss Alley — where the balconies of facing colonial buildings are said to be close enough for lovers to exchange a kiss across the gap, a legend that drew visitors then as it does now in this vivid chrome-era color postcard alive with ochre, terracotta, and turquoise walls under a sliver of brilliant blue sky. A vintage gas lantern hangs overhead, potted plants crowd a upper balcony, and the worn stone and plaster of centuries-old buildings crowd the narrow lane with an intimacy that no wider street could match. The reverse identifies the retailer as the Restaurant y Miscelánea Casa Valadez, Jardín Unión No. 3, Guanajuato — the same beloved establishment that retailed PC-04281 — with catalog number G-297 and the "Registro Artístico" copyright line. Unused and unposted, with a penciled price of 25 centavos.
