Postcard 1960s Chrome Guadalajara Kiosk South Side Cathedral Mexico DO-151

Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico1965ChromeExcellent

The iconic wrought-iron kiosco of Guadalajara's Plaza de Armas commands the left foreground of this warm chrome-era postcard, its ornate Victorian gazebo — a gift from France, cast in iron and assembled in 1910 — serving as an elegant counterpoint to the golden-domed Catedral Metropolitana rising majestically behind it. Lush garden plantings, cast-iron lampposts bearing globe lights, and a pair of marble statues lend the scene a civic grandeur that Guadalajara's boosters wore proudly. The south side of the cathedral, with its gilded Baroque dome and the columned portico of the Palacio Municipal visible at far right, frames a city in full command of its identity as Mexico's cultural capital. The postcard's rich Potocolor printing process renders the bougainvillea and sky in tones that feel almost nostalgically cinematic.
