RPPC Postcard 1930s Columna Independencia Angel Mexico City Detail No 244

Mexico City, Mexico1935RPPCExcellent

Gazing up from street level at one of the Western Hemisphere's most iconic monuments, this razor-sharp real-photo postcard presents a breathtaking close-up of the base of Mexico City's Columna de la Independencia — the beloved "Ángel" — revealing sculptural details that tourist snapshots rarely capture. Four massive allegorical figures flank the pedestal: a seated female figure with a laurel wreath and torch at left, chained lions guarding the crypt entrance, and standing marble heroes — believed to represent Miguel Hidalgo, José María Morelos, and other independence leaders — arranged dramatically against a billowing cloud sky. An inscription panel anchors the center. This card, numbered 244, is from a professional series and represents some of the finest architectural RPPC photography produced in Mexico during the 1930s.
