Postcard 1960s Mexicali Baja California La Rumorosa Highway Chrome Mexico

La Rumorosa, Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico1965ChromeExcellent

A gleaming Carta Blanca beer delivery truck thunders through the dramatic boulder-strewn narrows of La Rumorosa pass on the international highway between Mexicali and the Pacific coast — a mid-century chrome-era postcard that captures both the raw grandeur of Baja California's Sierra Juárez mountains and the commercial energy of postwar Mexico in a single frame. The rocky cliffs loom on both sides of the freshly paved road while a Volkswagen bus and a vintage sedan trail behind the silver semi, making this an accidental time capsule of 1960s Mexican automotive culture. Produced by Mexfotocolor (México Fotográfico, Apartado 1934, Mexico City) and printed in Mexico, the card was never mailed — the address side is blank save a dealer's price notation of 25 cents. The Carta Blanca brand, produced by Cuauhtémoc Brewery in Monterrey, was already a national icon by this era, and its truck's prominent placement transforms a scenic highway card into an inadvertent piece of beer advertising ephemera.
