Postcard Puerto Vallarta Hotel Posada Vallarta Pool Mexico Chrome Mailed

Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico1968ChromeGood

Sun-bleached lounge chairs, swaying palms, pink cocktails on a waiter's tray, and a dramatic pyramid-shaped palapa rising in the background — this chrome postcard of the pool at Hotel Posada Vallarta captures Puerto Vallarta at its mid-century resort peak, when the former fishing village was transforming into an international tourism destination following the 1964 filming of The Night of the Iguana. The card was mailed by Edna to her friend Flo, who was apparently also friends with someone named Hazel — the two women had been traveling through Mexico together, this being their second trip and an "extended trip in Mexico," with a third leg to Central America still ahead. "Not nearly as much fun as being with a gang!" Edna writes — a charming window into mid-century women's group travel culture. Posted from Puerto Vallarta (P. Vallarta cancellation visible) with a Mexican 80-centavo Correo Aéreo stamp.
