Postcard 1920s Hann. Münden Rathaus Germany Weimar Republic Era Stamp

Hann. Münden, Germany1922Pre-linenGood

The magnificent Renaissance town hall of Hann. Münden rises in brooding sepia splendor — its ornately scrolled Weser Renaissance gables, the elaborate portal with Baroque balustrade, and the round tower with its pointed helm all captured in a beautifully atmospheric Kupfertiefdruck (photogravure) print that renders the stone facade's every carved detail. Hannoversch Münden, where the Fulda and Werra rivers merge to form the Weser, was already celebrated as one of Germany's best-preserved half-timbered towns when this card was produced in the early Weimar Republic era. Addressed to Fräulein Liesel Hollemann in Straßburg (Strassburg) on the Rhine — at a time when Alsace had just reverted to France after WWI — the card carries fascinating cross-border postal history. The Weimar-era 10 Pfennig stamp and circular postmark from Hann. Münden date this mailing to approximately 1922–1923.
