Antique & Vintage Postcards

A bronze mother lifts water to a small child at the Kinderbrunnen fountain beside the Gymnasium in Düsseldorf — a tender sculptural tableau caught in the warm color printing of the early twentieth century, with the domed silhouette of a grand civic building rising softly in the background through the amber afternoon light. This "children's fountain" was a beloved civic ornament in pre-WWI Düsseldorf, and this hand-colored photographic card by Karl Fischer of Eltville am Rhein captures it with a painterly glow that elevates it above the typical tourist souvenir. The card is unused, with no postmark or address, preserving it in pristine condition — a blank that never made it into someone's letter-box but has survived a century in remarkable shape. Published as no. 609 in Fischer's catalog (series print run 2010), it is a fine example of quality Rhineland postcard publishing from the Wilhelmine–early Weimar transition period.
