Antique & Vintage Postcards

Nestled between two densely forested ridges of the Thuringian Forest, this hand-colored panoramic view of Friedrichroda captures the spa town at its interwar peak — red-roofed villas and hotels peek through a canopy of firs, while a grand hillside mansion anchors the foreground right. Friedrichroda, known since the 19th century as a favored Luftkurort (fresh-air resort) for city-weary Germans, draws the eye toward the valley gap where a church spire rises among the trees. The postcard was mailed and bears a handwritten message in German cursive, addressed to "Herrn August Ries" at Lüttkert 26 — a familiar, neighborly address suggesting this was sent by someone (possibly "Ella" or similar, based on the closing script) enjoying a holiday cure. The Thüringerwald-Verlag Richard Hirsbach imprint from Rudolstadt places production firmly in the Weimar-to-early-Third-Reich transition era, consistent with the Paul von Hindenburg 8-Pfennig stamp used for postage.
