Antique & Vintage Postcards

Three endearing rabbits — a snowy white albino, a soft brown cottontail, and a jaunty black-and-white pied bunny — huddle together over a scatter of bright red berries and an orange carrot in this richly chromolithographic Easter greeting, its ornate Art Nouveau frame of swirling blue ribbons and red gilt scrollwork stamped in beautiful embossed relief. The card was sent in April 1909 from Youngstown, Ohio, to Miss Nellie Gorman at 1367 West 64th Street in Cleveland — postmarked April 8, 1909, with a clear Youngstown Ohio machine cancel — by "Sister Benedict," who signs off with warm wishes for "a joyful and happy Easter and with love to each and all at home." The affectionate religious-community salutation suggests the sender may have been a nun, lending this charming Easter card an unexpectedly touching human story.
