Antique & Vintage Postcards

Deep imperial purple saturates this lavishly embossed birthday card, its raised poppies and gold Art Nouveau letterforms catching the light in a way that photographs simply cannot do justice — the "H" of "Hearty Greetings" unfurls like a vine, while "EARTY" blazes in a gilded cartouche, and below, cream-on-purple lettering wishes the recipient well "for your Birthday." Printed in Germany for Davidson Bros. of London and New York during the height of the Edwardian postcard golden age, this card was postmarked at Pipes Mill, New York on April 6, 1910, bearing a 1-cent Franklin stamp, and addressed to a Mrs. E. from someone whose message — though partly obscured by the bold embossing — is written in careful cursive on the correspondence side.
