Postcard 1915 PPIE West Entrance Palace Liberal Arts San Francisco Pan-Pacific

San Francisco, California, USA1915Pre-linenExcellent

Gleaming globe lamps crown marble balustrades at the West Entrance to the Palace of Liberal Arts — one of the most architecturally refined buildings at the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco, its sweeping colonnaded exedra reminiscent of a Roman forum, richly ornamented with terracotta panels, carved urns, and statuary niches framing a grand arched portal touched with gilded sculpture. Facing the main entrance to the Exposition grounds from the city side and covering nearly six acres, this palace was among the most visited of the fair's ten principal "palaces," celebrating education, science, and the applied arts in an era when such optimism felt boundless. Published by Pacific Novelty Co. and unnused, this card retains crisp color and fine detail — a pristine survivor of a fairground demolished just months after the gates closed.
