Postcard Linen Lincoln Park Lake Boat House Los Angeles CA 1920s-30s

Los Angeles, California, USA1935LinenGood

Dappled light filters through a cathedral of mature oaks and eucalyptus in this linen-era view of Lincoln Park's lake and boathouse — a tranquil scene that feels worlds away from the bustling Los Angeles just beyond the tree line. The curving footpath leads the eye gently toward a handsome red-roofed boathouse reflected in calm water, a structure that anchored weekend leisure for generations of East Los Angeles families. Lincoln Park, established in the 1870s, is one of the city's oldest public parks and carries layers of history: a former ostrich farm, an early zoo site, and a gathering ground for the surrounding Latino community that grew through the twentieth century. The M. Kashower Co. published a beloved series of California scenic linen cards from their Los Angeles base, and this example shows the rich hand-tinted color palette typical of the genre's finest period printing.
