Postcard 1927 Yosemite Falls National Park CA Linen Used Bob to Melba

Yosemite National Park, California, USA1927LinenGood

Postmarked from Merced, California on August 31, 1927, this early linen-era Yosemite card carries the breezy firsthand account of a traveler named Bob, who left Pomona at 8:30 in the morning, arrived at Merced at midnight, and was hitchhiking his way north to the State Fair in Sacramento — "I am sure getting good rides," he cheerfully reported to a young woman named Melba in Pomona. The card's front is a richly colored view of Yosemite Falls framed by towering conifers and a winding path, the falls themselves described on the reverse as plunging in three tiers for a total of some 2,600 feet. Published by Pacific Novelty Co. of San Francisco and Los Angeles, the card is franked with a 2-cent Vermont Sesquicentennial commemorative stamp from 1927, a short-lived issue that adds numismatic appeal.
