Postcard 1930s Heinz Ocean Pier Atlantic City NJ 57 Varieties Linen Folder

Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA1935LinenGood

From the golden age of corporate seaside spectacle comes this vivid linen-era promotional mailer for the Heinz Ocean Pier — the H.J. Heinz Company's celebrated "Seaside Home of the 57 Varieties" jutting proudly into the Atlantic at Atlantic City, New Jersey. The cover card presents an aerial-perspective lithograph of the pier's twin green-roofed pavilions thronged with bathers on the sun-bleached sand, sailboats skimming the horizon, and the iconic red "57" sign blazing at the pier's end. Unfold the mailer and a charming promotional booklet reveals itself: "Kitchens from Many Lands," originally presented at Chicago's Century of Progress Exposition in 1933 and later transplanted to the Atlantic City pier. Dutch, French, and Spanish period kitchens are illustrated in full color with evocative descriptive text celebrating the role of the thrifty housewife and, of course, Heinz's 57 varieties. The stamp box reads "Place 1½¢ Stamp Here," dating the piece to the domestic postcard rate of 1928–1952. Card no. 17736, litho in U.S.A.
