Postcard Chrome Panoramic View San Miguel de Allende Guanajuato Mexico

San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico1968ChromeGood

From a hillside vantage point above the valley, this sweeping chrome panorama of San Miguel de Allende reveals why the colonial city captivated generations of artists, writers, and retirees who made it one of Mexico's most celebrated expatriate havens. On the left rises the yellow-domed bulk of the Oratorio de San Felipe Neri, while the improbable neo-Gothic spires of La Parroquia — designed by self-taught indigenous mason Ceferino Gutiérrez after studying European postcards in the 1880s — pierce the skyline on the right. Dry mountains frame the scene above a lush carpet of trees that still define the city's silhouette. Photographer Salvador Fematt captured this classic composition for Litográfica Turmex's Vistacolor series, and the card retains its original 25-centavo price pencil notation on the verso — a tiny, touching reminder of what a souvenir once cost.
