Postcard 1900s Brünig Bahnhof Switzerland Steam Train Station Undivided Back

Brünig Pass, Canton of Obwalden / Bern border, Switzerland1902Pre-linenExcellent

A puff of white steam curls from a diminutive locomotive as it pulls a string of brown carriages into Brünig station — a handsome timber-and-stone building bearing a "Buffet" sign — while snow-streaked alpine peaks loom dramatically above a dark curtain of fir forest. This richly chromolithographed undivided-back card dates to approximately 1900–1905 and captures the Brünig Railway (Brüniglinie) at its romantic peak, when the narrow-gauge rack-and-pinion line threading the Brünig Pass between Lucerne and Interlaken was still a novelty that pulled tourists from across Europe. The station building visible here was later substantially altered. A second detail image zooms in on the locomotive and the "Buffet" sign, revealing the fine halftone dot printing typical of early Swiss colour cards. Never posted, never written upon — a pristine time capsule of Edwardian Alpine travel.
