Postcard Whaling Off Bermuda Diorama Chrome 1960s Museum Exhibit Harpooner

Hamilton, Bermuda1965ChromeExcellent

A harpooner lunges forward with lethal precision as a massive whale tail arcs skyward in this vivid chrome-era postcard capturing a museum diorama of whaling off Bermuda — one of the most dramatic three-dimensional depictions of the mid-Atlantic whale hunt ever produced for the souvenir trade. The sculpted scene crackles with movement: a blue longboat crowded with at least six oarsmen strains against frothing white foam, while in the background a second boat appears moments from capsizing as a struck whale thrashes beneath it. Whaling was a vital economic engine for Bermuda during the 17th and 18th centuries, and this diorama — photographed in rich, saturated chrome color — brings that dangerous livelihood to vivid life. Published by International Imports Ltd. of Hamilton, Bermuda, and distributed under the Interimp imprint, it is card number 34066 in their scenic series.
