Postcard Romance Tom Moore Nea Tucker Bermuda Diorama Chrome 1960s

St. George's, Bermuda1965ChromeExcellent

Beneath a blazing orange sunset sky, a young man in a green tailcoat kneels at the feet of a woman in a flowing seafoam gown beside a gnarled Bermuda tree — this chrome diorama postcard immortalizes one of the island's most bittersweet love stories: the romance of Irish poet Tom and the married Nea, Bermuda's own Romeo and Juliet. Tom arrived in Bermuda in 1804, fell deeply in love with Nea, the bride of William Tucker of St. George's, and though he stayed only four months, he poured his longing into poetry that endured for generations. The sculpted figures are rendered with remarkable expressiveness — his pleading hands, her hesitant posture — set against a painted backdrop of extraordinary warmth. Published by International Imports Ltd. of Hamilton, Bermuda (Interimp), card number 34070, this is a companion piece to the whaling diorama card 34066 in the same series.
