Punters glide lazily past Skindles — Maidenhead's beloved riverside inn — while Edwardian ladies in white summer dresses drift in a skiff beneath the nine arches of Maidenhead Bridge in this luminous Raphael Tuck & Sons "Oilette" chromolithograph. Painted by H. B. Wimbush after his original watercolour and reproduced with Tuck's celebrated "platemarkʺ process, the card captures the golden age of Thames leisure circa 1902–1905, when Skindles was the smart set's favourite haunt — later immortalised in P. G. Wodehouse and associated with jazz-age weekend parties. A Wordsworth couplet — "Glide gently, thus for ever glide, O Thames!" — is printed below the image. The undivided back (address only) dates manufacture to before the 1902 UK divided-back rule, or very early in its adoption; the Tuck series "Up the River" No. 9720 is noted on the reverse alongside the royal appointment crest. Unused and unposted, the card retains vivid colour with only minor edge wear.
