Known as "shooting the rapids," the passage under the Old Weir Bridge connecting the Upper Lake to Muckross Lake was the climax of Killarney's famous boat tour, thrilling generations of Victorian and Edwardian visitors. Valentine's "Valesque" process, produced at the company's Dundee and London works and printed in Scotland, delivered exceptional tonal richness; the turquoise water and lush green canopy retain their depth more than a century on.
