Postcard 1910s Lake Placid Adirondacks Linen George Bliss Boat Steamer Doris

Lake Placid, New York, USA1930LinenGood

From a hawk's-eye perch above the tree-line, spruce and fir crowd the foreground while Lake Placid's sinuous channels wind through forested islands toward the soft blue wall of the Adirondack High Peaks — a scene that must have made every city-dweller who received this card immediately reach for a train timetable. Printed in the warm, slightly hazy palette characteristic of early Tichnor Quality Views linen-style cards, this promotional piece for the George and Bliss Boat Line doubles as a timetable: the Steamer Doris departs the George and Bliss Landing at 10:25 a.m., 2:40, and 4:40 p.m. from June 25th to September 25th. A red arrow on the image helpfully points out the "George and Bliss Boat Landing" tucked against the far shore. Published by Standard Supply Co., Otter Lake, N.Y., and printed by Tichnor Bros., this card is a charming crossover between tourist souvenir and commercial advertisement — a format beloved by today's Adirondack ephemera collectors.
