Postcard 1940s RPPC In de Duinen Dunes Appelscha Netherlands Used Nederland

Appelscha, Friesland, Netherlands1947RPPCGood

Wind-sculpted sand hills roll into a brooding Dutch sky in this atmospheric real-photo postcard of the inland dunes at Appelscha, a quiet nature village in the province of Friesland where vast drift-sand landscapes feel more Baltic than lowland — sparse marram grass tufts catch the light and dark pinewoods crown the ridgeline in a composition of spare, wintry beauty photographed by local lensman S. Mulder. The card was sent by a writer named Berber to a Miss G. Scheper at Koningstraat 80 in Den Helder, franked with a Netherlands 2-cent blue definitive stamp of the type issued from 1946, placing this mailing firmly in the early postwar years. The message side carries only the sender's name — "afz. Berber" (afzender = sender) — leaving the image to speak its quiet, contemplative piece. Appelscha's dune reserves are today protected as the Drents-Friese Wold National Park, and this modest real-photo view preserves a mid-century glimpse of that landscape.
