Postcard 1954 Chrome Los Portales Tijuana Mexico Used Patty to Clarksburg WV

Tijuana, Mexico1954ChromeGood

A broad, sun-bleached boulevard stretches across this vivid chrome-era postcard of Los Portales — Tijuana's famous arcaded shopping street — where classic early-1950s American automobiles park bumper to bumper outside storefronts advertising shoes, boots, and Velázquez Curiosities, a snapshot of the border-town tourism economy at its postwar peak. Dated February 22, 1954, and mailed with a Mexican 10-centavo stamp, the message from Patty is a gem of mid-century consumer joy: she reports spending the day across the border and having "just purchased gorgeous green suede coat for $18.00," closing with "Having a grand week-end. Home this afternoon. Love, Patty." The card was sent to Mr. and Mrs. G.N. Black at P.O. Box 693 in Clarksburg, West Virginia — a lovely slice of everyday American life touching the Mexican border.
