Postcard 1930s Montecatini Terme Italy Stabilimento Excelsior Spa Real Photo

Montecatini Terme, Tuscany, Italy1935Pre-linenFair-Good

A gleaming early automobile curves past manicured hedges and a sculptural fountain in front of the colonnaded Stabilimento Excelsior at Montecatini Terme — one of Italy's most celebrated thermal spa towns — in this crisp 1930s real-photo style postcard that captures the elegant leisure culture of Fascist-era Tuscany at its composed, formal best. Montecatini Terme drew aristocrats, politicians, and celebrities to its cluster of grand thermal establishments throughout the early 20th century; the Excelsior, with its five-bay loggia and Renaissance-inspired arcade, was among the most architecturally distinguished of the town's bagni. The card, published by Stabilimento Grafico Cesare Capello (Milan) under number 11972, is unused and blank on the reverse, suggesting it was purchased as a souvenir and never sent — a common fate for cards from resort destinations where visitors collected rather than mailed. Light toning consistent with storage, but the image retains excellent photographic detail.
