Antique & Vintage Postcards

From the foot of the Spanish Steps, Rome's most theatrical public staircase cascades upward toward the twin-towered façade of Trinità dei Monti in this crisp phototype postcard from around 1905 — a view that would have thrilled any Grand Tourist named perhaps Margherita or Heinrich clutching their Baedeker. The foreground teems with flower vendors, strollers, and a small fountain, the Barcaccia, while at street level on the right the words "Hamburg America Line" are legible on a building fascia, placing this card squarely in the pre-WWI era of ocean liner tourism. The image is rendered in warm sepia halftone with fine detail in the architectural stonework and the lush plantings on the steps.
