Antique & Vintage Postcards

Lush ivy smothers a centuries-old mill beside the rocky burn at Jesmond Dene, Newcastle upon Tyne — this tinted photographic postcard from around 1905 captures the park at its most romantically overgrown, stone walls barely visible beneath a velvet cloak of leaves. Jesmond Dene was gifted to the city by industrialist Lord Armstrong in 1884, and this picturesque corner around the old mill became one of its most-photographed spots in the Edwardian golden age of postcard collecting. The card is unused and clean, published by the prolific E.T.W. Dennis & Sons of Scarborough, whose distinctive photographic tinting style graced thousands of British topographic views.
