Postcard 1639 Stromer Dollhouse Germanisches Nationalmuseum Nürnberg Chrome

Nuremberg, Germany (subject); Nürtingen, Germany (sent from)1974ChromeGood

A cross-sectioned wonder frozen in miniature — the Stromer family dollhouse of 1639 Nuremberg opens its four floors to reveal a complete world in microcosm: a bustling kitchen hung with copper pots, a draped bedroom, a staircase hall, a linen room with folded blue fabric, and even a wine cellar with tiny barrels, all rendered with breathtaking 17th-century craft. This chrome-era museum postcard reproduces one of the crown jewels of the Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg, a dolls' house commissioned by the patrician von Stromer family as both a prestige object and a domestic instruction model — not a toy but a miniature Gesamtkunstwerk. The card was mailed on 11 March 1974 from Nürtingen, Germany, with a warm personal greeting in German script wishing the recipient joy, good hours, and cheerfulness in a new home ("Puppenküche" — doll's kitchen — mentioned affectionately), signed with a first name from someone called Herta.
