Antique & Vintage Postcards

Rising above a sweep of Home Park grassland behind a neat iron rail fence, Windsor Castle presents its full medieval silhouette in this atmospheric sepia-toned Edwardian view — the Round Tower unmistakable on the right, the great mass of State Apartments stretching left, all cloaked in the soft haze characteristic of early collotype printing; this is Windsor as Queen Victoria's mourners or King Edward VII's new subjects would have recognised it, fixed in silver-grey permanence by an unknown lens. The card belongs to the scarce "Wyndham" Series, no. 1589, a publisher active in Britain's earliest picture-postcard boom, and its undivided back — address only, no message space — dates it firmly to before 1902, placing it among the earliest collectible British view cards.
