Postcard Charles W Morgan Whaleship Mystic Seaport CT Chrome 1979

Mystic, Connecticut, USA1979ChromeExcellent

She rode out 37 voyages and outlasted the entire American whaling fleet — the Charles W. Morgan sits proudly at her permanent berth in Mystic, Connecticut, dressed in a full rainbow of signal flags against a deep summer sky. Photographer G. Allan Brown captured her black hull and towering triple masts at their most theatrical, bunting strung mast-to-mast as if the old girl were hosting a party for the ghosts of every whaleman who ever stood her watch. Built in 1841 in New Bedford, Massachusetts, she is the last surviving wooden whaleship in the world, and Mystic Seaport has preserved her as the centerpiece of its living museum of 19th-century New England coastal life. Visitors who walk her decks today can stand at the very try-works where blubber was rendered, and imagine the years of hard, dangerous work that made fortunes — and broke men — across every ocean on the globe.
