Antique & Vintage Postcards

Rising in tiers of Romanesque arcading and Gothic pinnacles, the great circular Baptistery of Pisa dominates this stately sepia card — photographed straight-on to reveal the full drama of its layered marble galleries, blind arcades, and the distinctive faceted dome added in the late 13th century by Nicola and Giovanni Pisano. Built from 1152 onward, the Battistero is the largest baptistery in Italy and stands at the western end of the Campo dei Miracoli alongside the Cathedral and the famous Leaning Tower; together they form one of the most photographed ensembles in the world. This early-era card, published by F.C. Dresda and printed on warm cream stock in rich brown-gold tones, carries trilingual captions (Italian, French, English) and a "Weltpostverein" universal postal union back — placing it firmly in the pre-World War I era. The reverse is clean and entirely unused, with the stock pencil notation "354-L" in the upper corner suggesting a dealer or collection inventory mark.
