Antique & Vintage Postcards

Suspended like a jewel box above a doorway of richly veined green marble, the medieval stone pulpit of the Chiesa di San Pietro in Perugia commands the eye in this crisp black-and-white real photograph — its hexagonal basin carved with standing saints beneath Gothic canopies, the whole supported on a single Corinthian capital as if weightless. San Pietro, founded in the 10th century and rebuilt across the medieval period, holds one of the finest collections of carved church furnishings in Umbria, and this pulpit — attributed to the 13th–14th century Umbrian workshop tradition — remains in situ today. The card was published by Edizione Artistica G. Casciarri of Perugia, a regional publisher active in the early 20th century, and printed by V.&S. Praf. Como (N. 13014), a northern Italian specialty printer.
