Antique & Vintage Postcards

Blazing maple leaves frame a sweeping harvest panorama on this exquisitely embossed 1910 Thanksgiving card, its richly chromolithographed goldenrod and cornfield landscape illustrating one of the era's most beloved seasonal verses — ending with the quietly profound line, "Some of us call it autumn, and others call it God." Published by John Winsch, whose embossed holiday cards are among the most sought-after by collectors today, this example was postmarked November 15, 1910 from Soldiers Home, California, and addressed to Mrs. at the Spanish Ranch in Plumas County — the same rural Northern California recipient as the companion turkey card in this batch. The sender, who signs off as "both" with love, mentions that "Jimmie is not well," that "Vera writes of coming home," and wishes "all a happy Thanksgiving" — a tender domestic window into ranch life over a century ago.
