Antique & Vintage Postcards

A chubby Cupid draws his bow with determined focus on this charming early Valentine postcard, its bold red border framing a romantic verse that pleads — almost philosophically — for two hearts to join as one: "Can these two hearts be Yours and Mine? / If so, Love, let us not repine / But accept as well / That which is done / And go thro' life thus / Joined as one." Two red hearts pierced by a single arrow anchor the upper right corner, and the whole composition radiates the earnest, slightly formal romanticism of Edwardian courtship. Published by The Stein Co. of Chicago — publishers, importers, and jobbers — this unused card retains crisp colors and the characteristic Arts-and-Crafts-influenced typography of the early postcard golden age. The back notation "Domestic ONE CENT / Foreign TWO CENTS" precisely dates its production to the 1907–1917 window of the divided-back era.
