Antique & Vintage Postcards

Lush, velvety red roses tumble across a silvery sage-green ground on this richly embossed and gilded Edwardian romance card — its sentiment as direct as a Victorian suitor: "Red Roses / True Love / Roses speak love / The whole world through, / That is why I send / Roses red to you." The ornate gold scrollwork framing, deep embossed petals, and saturated chromolithographic color are hallmarks of the finest German-printed postcard production of the pre-WWI golden age. Postmarked from Stockholm, NY in 1910 and addressed to Master Glen in Rome, NY, the handwritten message on the back — partially legible — mentions "Fannie and Dandas" and references Mrs. Meyers and a planned trip, hinting at the rich web of small-town upstate New York social life a century ago.
