Postcard 1935 Winfield's Restaurant Mentor Ohio Tourist Camp RPPC Style

Mentor, Ohio, USA1935LinenExcellent

Tucked beneath a cathedral canopy of mature hardwoods on U.S. Route 20, Winfield's Restaurant and Modern Tourist Camp in Mentor, Ohio presents itself with Tudor Revival charm in this crisp black-and-white real-photo-style card — the half-timbered gable of the service building and a small roadside kiosk emerge from deep shadow and dappled light, the broad brick forecourt empty and expectant, 25 miles east of Cleveland on the great highway that once stitched the American midwest together before the interstates arrived. The back, published by Standard Publications of Geneva, Ohio and printed by Fort Wayne Printing Co. of Fort Wayne, Indiana under their "Foto-Tone" brand, advertises "comfortable cabins, heated and with showers" — a proud boast for the 1930s auto-tourist trade, when a clean cabin with hot water was genuine luxury. The card was never mailed, its stamp box blank, a pristine artifact of roadside America's golden age.
