Antique & Vintage Postcards

Searchlight beams in crimson, gold, and jade slash across a midnight-blue sky over Queens in this breathtaking linen-era panorama — the 1939 New York World's Fair as imagined from the observation roof of the Empire State Building, rendered in full Art Deco chromatic glory. The artist's sweeping composition captures the electrified Manhattan grid stretching to the horizon, with the gleaming spire of the Chrysler Building piercing the foreground skyline, the Queensborough Bridge arching to the right, and the twin spans of the Triborough Bridge glinting in the far distance. The Waldorf-Astoria is also identifiable in the middle ground. Produced by Curt Teich & Co. of Chicago under their "C.T. Art-Colortone" process and distributed once again by Frank E. Cooper of 258 Broadway, this card (catalog no. 7A-H173) dates to 1939 and was explicitly promotional — the bottom border reads "VISIT THE NEW YORK WORLD'S FAIR IN 1939." The fair, themed "The World of Tomorrow," attracted over 44 million visitors and remains one of the most celebrated expositions in American history. This card was never mailed, preserving its vivid inks in exceptional linen-era condition.
