Antique & Vintage Postcards

Yellow streetcars slice through a web of rail lines in the foreground as the soaring Terminal Tower — Cleveland's great Art Deco crown, completed in 1930 — pierces a peach-and-blue linen sky in this vibrant Depression-era city view. Published by the Sapirstein Greeting Card Company of Cleveland and printed by Curt Teich & Co. using their "C.T. Art-Colortone" process (card no. 5A-H2148, dating to ca. 1935), the card celebrates the newly completed U.S. Post Office built directly over the Cleveland Union Terminal railroad tracks — an engineering marvel described on the reverse as a "three and one-half million dollar" structure. The scene is a snapshot of mid-century urban ambition: transit, commerce, architecture, and civic pride all converging at Public Square. Terminal Tower was the tallest building in the world outside New York City when it opened, a fact Clevelanders never tired of noting.
