Antique & Vintage Postcards

Dappled light filters through enormous shade trees at Winfield's Modern Cottage Camp, a roadside haven promising hot showers, a restaurant, and clean restrooms to Depression- and war-era travelers motoring along the old highway 22 miles east of Cleveland — a postcard that captures the golden age of American auto-tourism before interstate highways erased these intimate roadside communities from the landscape. The sepia-toned Artvue image frames a gravel drive curving past a prominent hand-painted sign advertising "Modern Cottage Camp — Private Bath Hot Showers — Restaurant — Clean Rest Rooms," with trailers and modest cottages visible beneath the canopy, and a scattering of period lawn chairs suggesting a leisurely stop. Winfield's sat in what is now the Lake County/Geauga County corridor east of Cleveland, a region popular with Midwest road-trippers heading to or from the city. This card was never mailed, leaving the Artvue reverse pristine and blank.
