Antique & Vintage Postcards

Gathered on the broad wraparound porch and lawn of a handsome Victorian resort building at Weirs, New Hampshire, a large mixed group of elderly men and women — many of the men wearing medal badges on their lapels — pose with quiet dignity in this beautifully detailed real-photo postcard from approximately 1903–1908. The caption "WEIRS, N.H." is printed directly into the image, identifying this as The Weirs, the lakeside village on Winnipesaukee that served as a popular G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic) encampment and Chautauqua destination in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A younger woman in a white shirtwaist and large hat stands at center, flanked by veterans in dark frock coats, their service medals glinting. On the porch behind them, more attendees crowd the railings. The back is printed on Kruxo paper stock — a Kodak-distributed RPPC paper used ca. 1907–1910 — with "This Side For The Address Only / Place One Cent Stamp Here / K RUXO."
