Antique & Vintage Postcards

A magnificent bronze turkey struts in full display across a harvest tableau of silver-embossed grapevines, clusters of deep indigo grapes, autumn squash, and golden corn, while an ornate cartouche bears a warmly worded Thanksgiving blessing — "Like a happy harvest in autumn, with rays of golden sunshine to tend, so may this Thanksgiving bless you, these lines I fondly send" — rendered in a vivid tricolor palette of russet, teal, and red on a rich ochre field, the entire composition heavily embossed and finished with metallic silver highlights in this superb example of Saxony-printed Thanksgiving ephemera. The reverse is entirely blank — never addressed, never stamped — printed in Saxony for the American import market and labeled simply "Import / Printed in Saxony," with the trilingual header "Carte postale / Postkarte / Post card" confirming its international production. Saxony (Sachsen) was the world center of chromolithographic postcard printing before World War I severed the Anglo-American import trade; this card's embossing quality, metallic inks, and color saturation represent that tradition at its peak. A pristine, unused example of the Edwardian Thanksgiving postcard genre, highly collectible for holiday topical and Germanica collectors alike.
