A dark-eyed little girl in a fur-trimmed coat clutches a sprig of mistletoe against a swirling snowstorm backdrop, her gaze fixed directly at the viewer with an almost haunting intensity — this sepia real-photo postcard, printed in Germany and postmarked Richmondville, New York, December 2, 1910, captures the sentimental charm of Edwardian holiday portraiture at its most evocative. The EAS publisher's heart-shaped logo anchors the card to a well-known German export house active in the early 1900s. On the back, a teacher named Mrs. De Long penned a warm holiday note to a young woman named Anna, wishing her a merry Christmas and a happy new year, expressing hope that Anna would come back to school — a small human drama preserved in ink for over a century. The printed verse reads: "Joyous hours go fleeting past / While the snow is falling fast."
