Antique & Vintage Postcards

Two rosy-cheeked figures lean toward each other in a stolen kiss framed by a cottage window draped in holiday holly — below them, a neatly wrapped box labeled Wedding Cake sits on a brick ledge surrounded by climbing roses, making this charming embossed novelty card a delightful crossroads of romance, humor, and Victorian sentimentality. Titled "First Class Matter" — a postal classification joke that doubled as a winking compliment to the recipient — the card was mailed from Niagara Falls, New York, on May 4, 1914, by a woman named Flossie to her aunt and uncle, Arthur and [wife], in Warrensburg, Warren County, New York. Flossie's breezy message brims with personality: she announces a new hat purchased that very morning for two dollars, declares the weather "just grand," and signs off cheerfully. Published by the PS series (S 238), the chromolithographic embossed front shows fine dot-screen printing typical of German-American trade card production circa 1910–1914.
