Antique & Vintage Postcards

Eight rosy-cheeked children dressed in miniature Santa Claus costumes — red cloaks, white aprons, and bonnets — parade in pairs across a blue-and-white holly-bordered frieze, each pair carrying symbols of holiday cheer: mistletoe, a wreath, a candy cane, their cheeks flushed with cold and merriment in a scene that distills Edwardian Christmas innocence into a single irresistible image. The verse below declares: "Here we come, two by two / Bringing Merry Christmas to you, to you. / We bring you symbols of Christmas cheer, / May they last through all the glad New Year." Manufactured by Whitney Made of Worcester, Massachusetts — one of the most respected American greeting card publishers of the era — and addressed to a Mr. Huron in Castleton, New York, via R.F.D., this unused (no postmark) embossed card represents the quality domestic alternative to German imports that Whitney championed through the early twentieth century. Sent from "Aunt" to her nephew with warm holiday wishes.
