Antique & Vintage Postcards

A dapper rabbit holds a fuchsia parasol above a wide-eyed baby chick as their floral-wheeled cart — wheels fashioned entirely from rings of tiny pink blossoms — is pulled by a prancing white lamb in a crimson harness, all rendered in vivid chromolithographic color with heavy embossing on this charming 1908 Easter greeting made in Austria. The whimsical barnyard fantasy is quintessential Edwardian holiday illustration: anthropomorphized animals, pastel florals, and silver Art Nouveau scrollwork border. Postmarked 1908 in New York, it was sent by "Ira" in Grapeville, N.Y., to Miss [first name withheld — "Ernstine"?] in Norwich, N.Y., R.F.D. #1, with the simple handwritten inscription "I wish you A Happy Easter."
