Postcard 1940 Nürnberg Gänsemännchen Fountain Bronze Statue Kupfertiefdruck

Nuremberg, Germany1940Pre-linenExcellent

A smiling peasant clutches two geese under his arms as twin jets of water arc outward — the Gänsemännchen ("Goose Man") fountain, one of Nuremberg's most beloved Renaissance bronzes, captured here in a crisp Kupfertiefdruck (copper intaglio) photograph against the Gothic tracery of St. Sebaldus Church. Cast by Pankraz Labenwolf in 1530, the original is one of the earliest secular fountain figures in Germany, and this moody black-and-white image — published by Ludwig Riffelmacher of Fürth circa 1940 — preserves it in its pre-war setting, surrounded by the ornate iron enclosure that survives to this day. The card is unused and in excellent condition, making it a fine example of late Weimar/early Third Reich-era topographic printing at its most refined.
