Antique & Vintage Postcards

Warm ochre plaster and terracotta rooftiles glow under a cloudless summer sky in this exquisitely tinted early view of Rothenburg ob der Tauber's Marktplatz — the medieval market square that has enchanted travellers since the Romantics first "discovered" it in the 19th century. A stone fountain occupies the cobbled center, horse-drawn carts rest in the foreground shadows, and a sign above an arched doorway advertises the Markt-Apotheke, the market pharmacy that still operates in the square today. The card was published by Gebrüder Metz of Tübingen, one of Imperial Germany's most respected photographic postcard houses, known for their meticulous color separation and archival-quality stock. The back carries the catalog number 50693 and the "1 L 1" format code, consistent with Metz's production standards of the 1905–1915 period. Dealer annotations "GGR" and "1M" appear in pencil.
