Antique & Vintage Postcards

From the golden age of Las Vegas glamour, this chrome Kodachrome card captures the legendary Hotel Flamingo's palm-fringed Olympic-sized pool in full mid-century swing — sun-worshippers stretched on red lounge chairs, yellow umbrellas popping against the desert sky, and the hotel's modernist bulk rising behind a screen of date palms. Opened by Bugsy Siegel in 1946, the Flamingo was the Strip's original dream palace, and by the early 1960s it had settled into its role as Hollywood's favorite desert playground. What makes this particular card extraordinary is its back: postmarked Las Vegas, April 23, 1962, it carries an exuberant message in which a sender named Walt announces to a recipient in Girard, Ohio — apparently named Hazel — that he "got married at 10 A.M. today," making this a genuine elopement or quickie Vegas wedding announcement dispatched in real time from one of history's most romantic addresses.
