Antique & Vintage Postcards

Neon blazes against the Nevada night as a well-dressed crowd mills beneath the towering white letters of Harrah's Club in Reno — a chrome-era snapshot of mid-century American gambling culture at its most glamorous. The 41-foot "air-curtain" entrance (never closed, the card proudly notes) pulses with warm light, couples in overcoats and heels lingering on the golden sidewalk while the marquee above promises "Show Lounge — Entertainment 24 Hours." On the back, a woman named Hazel dashes off an exuberant note to the Smail family in Girard, Ohio, breathlessly recounting how she and Walt fought through a crowd of 150,000 to hear Billy Graham preach in Los Angeles — one of his legendary 1963 crusades — with 70,000 unable to get inside and 50,000 seated on the grass. "What a mob," she writes, the postcard's Las Vegas-adjacent glamour a delicious counterpoint to her evangelical enthusiasm. Postmarked Reno, September 9, 1963, with a 4¢ Lincoln stamp.
